Introduction

Controller Editor

Volplanes Controller Editor is a powerful tool for creating player controllers which will work natively with the C# framework in Unity. This editor can be started by clicking on the Open Controller Editor button in Unitys inspector or by navigating to following URL in your browser:
http://localhost:<port>/volplane/controller-editor.html
Replace <port> with the web server port Volplane is running on (default is 7860).

When a newly created controller is opened in the Controller Editor, you are first faced with its Controller Settings.

Editor Structure

A controller consists of one or more views between which you will be able to switch back and forth. Every view can be custom designed and can contain various input elements. Basically all elements added in the Controller Editor can also be accessed via Unity.

View Handling

All views of the current controller are listed in the top bar of the editor. There you can also add new views or delete existing ones.

Workspace

The current controller view is displayed on the workspace in the middle of the editor. Elements on the workspace can be positioned by drag and drop. The grid of the current view is used for aligning elements.

Properties panel

You can edit view or element properties in the properties panel on the right hand side. Element properties are only displayed while the element is selected in the workspace.

Adding Content panel

New input elements can be added to a view from the panel on the left. A Delete Selected Element button appears when an element is selected on the workspace for removing it.

Control Options

At the bottom left of the editor there are a few buttons:

Button Description
Controller Settings Will open the Controller Settings for this specific controller.
Save Controller Saves the controller. The controller can now be used in your project.
Preview View Previews the currently open view. Due a bug in an early version of Volplane v1.0, the view displays only in landscape mode.

Adding images / fonts

Image / font location

Images

The controller editor will automatically detect image files located in Assets/WebGLTemplates/Volplane/img/. Following image formats are supported: JPG, PNG and GIF.

Fonts

Custom fonts can be included as long as they use a browser compatible file-format. The controller editor will automatically detect font files located in Assets/WebGLTemplates/Volplane/fonts/. Following font formats are supported: OTF, TTF, EOT, WOFF, WOFF2 and SVG.
